Class of 2012

I suppose since this class has already graduated and are safely past their first round of college finals, I'm safe to post their pictures.

I love laughter pictures.  I've probably said that a dozen times on this blog.

Boots and laughter - it doesn't get any better.

Their parents wanted a picture of them together - they balked.  This was the compromise.  I love it.

I know this isn't a 'senior pic' but it was one that happened during his shoot and it's one of my favorite shots of all time.  I hope I have a picture like this someday.  That's not a bragging comment - that's a compliment to this wonderful family.

I love how Cookie is looking at him with such adoration.

Ok, this definitely isn't a senior shot.  But it's one that needed posting.  The idea was to get Cookie to 'drive' by putting peanut butter on the steering wheel.  Cookie was too smart.

This was shot in the Stockyards.  It was a fun location.

Ross Wedding October 2011

What I love about a blog is that you can be more abstract with the content. Instead of putting the posed wedding pictures - you can choose the ones that you really, really love. And talk about them. This was one of those weddings. They were super cool. They gave me all the creative license I wanted and were so laid back, I almost felt like a guest. I became Facebook friends with this bride and I love to see her statuses - she's still definitely in a honeymoon phase. So awesome. So, here are my favorites from their wedding.
The flower girl - while everyone else was getting ready, she already was, so I got to take some really pretty pictures of her.  Which wasn't hard - she's seriously cute, no?

I don't know why I love this shot.  Maybe I should post one of the back of the bride's dress.  It was a LOT of tying for this bridesmaid.  Like a giant's shoe.  If a shoe were a beautiful wedding dress.

What?  You knew it was coming.  The shoe shot.  Some people don't understand the Converse wedding shoe phenomenon.  I hope it lasts.  So does my camera, Baxter.

One of my favorite wedding shots ever.  It just makes me happy.

Seeee?  Creative license!  This was taken from the inside of the lobby.  I don't know whether they knew I was shooting.

I love ring bearers.  I mean, what's not to love about the a little guy in a tux?

Audience participation makes good shots, IMO.

I LOVE when the bride claps.  It seems to be so involuntary - so 'in the moment.'  It makes me feel so, so happy.

Thank you, thank you to all new husbands who make a moment like this.  Baxter thanks you.  I thank you.  Readers of this blog thank you.

They are whispering behind her bouquet.  Heart.

Belly Dancing on the Beach!

These are pictures of a friend of mine. She asked if we could take some shots and I was looking for a creative outlet. I asked her if she minded getting on a boat in front of a very public restaurant at Joe Pool Lake and she (being the kind of belly dancer who performs at restaurants) said she'd be there. Then, we made a trip to the other side of the lake and settled on a beach I usually go to have picnics with my family. I love these shots and I'm so grateful that my friend had no inhibitions, no demands on how I processed them, and no worries about going across a lake in a belly dancing costume with a life vest on and the wind blowing her sequined headband around.

I personally loved that at the end of our shoot, an older couple ambled into our cove in their fishing boat and watched us as we shot the last few pictures. Now there's something you don't see that often while bass fishing!!!

Little Boys Part 1

I find that I have a hard time deciding on the pictures I want to use from my shoots. I love the really pretty ones, but the ones with character are always my favorite. It's kind of a bonus with kids, because most of the time, every shot has some bit of 'character' in it! Note to parents: don't worry about what a photographer thinks about your child who won't smile, or only smiles big, crazy-looking fake smiles, or who runs off the side of every shot in a blur. The reason I say that is twofold. One, if it bothers your photographer, they are in the wrong business. Two, you will love those shots one day. So, relax and enjoy your shoot, the way the Mom did in this one. She's a friend of mine, so that helped, but I swear I would have taken even more pictures if I hadn't been laughing so much.
